Afghanistan, Iraq: development of a new UN Convention
Received: 15.11.2009 Published: 15.11.2009
Abstract
Military presence in Afghanistan has been established not only by NATO armed forces, but also by various private military and security companies from countries participating in the international security assistance force. The UN Mercenary Convention (of 2001) is no longer an efficient instrument for the regulation of the activities of these entities. It is necessary for the international community to develop a completely new approach to this issue.
