Abstract
the article deals with topical issues of civilization interactions in the era of globalization. The author analyzes the West - East dichotomy and differences between the institutional types of civilizations. The article focuses in detail on transformation of the national and cultural identity in the Western countries, as well as on the problem of national relations within a multicultural society.
