Abstract
The article focuses on annexation of Kazakhstan to the Russian Empire in the XVIII - XIX centuries. The center of attention - is studying Russian politics on the territory of Steppes. The author analyzes works of Russian and Kazakh historians covering the essence of Empire`s policy in respect of periphery.
