Abstract
Effective execution of the requirements of the Law No. 8-FZ «On providing access to information on the activities of state bodies and local government bodies» depends on how thoroughly it is studied by civil society and how appropriately it is executed by public officials. Social studies show that there are problems on both sides. The law itself has a number of drawbacks. Measures to improve the situation are suggested.
