Functions of history in public life

Abstract

The article attempts to explore, based on methodological approaches of philosophic analysis the function of history in public life and on the basis of the definition of “function” aptly disclosing the substance, content and quality of history. The role of function is seen in the formation and development of various social phenomena, the direction and areas of their implementation and the connections with scientific, practical, political, cultural, cognitive and educational activities of society. History moreover, has a wide set of interrelated functions through which it manifests its essence and which provide the connection of the latter with the practical activities of the people. The set of functions referred to in this work is not deemed as being complete. It is rather open in its context and can be augmented and replenished on the basis of the use of such a methodological tool as a receptor, formed on the basis of the philosophical category of "function".
