Abstract

The aim of this article is to highlight the category of «medium-sized business» and consider current difficulties and the need for development. Medium-sized businesses are sometimes described as being in the SME category, but only small and microbusinesses have real benefits and support. The lack of a support system for medium-sized businesses leads to the fact that such enterprises split into several small ones to take advantage of benefits and preferences for small businesses. However, it is the medium-sized business that has the significant potential to strengthen social stability and create new jobs. It is worth noting that in Russian reality big business is not always effective in the implementation of a number of projects. At the same time, there are restrictive and administrative barriers for medium-sized enterprises to enter this sphere. In Russia, there are several programs and measures aimed at supporting medium-sized businesses. For example, the federal program «Development of Small and Medium-sized Entrepreneurship and Increasing its Competitiveness for the Period until 2030», which provides for the allocation of funds for the development of the SME sector. In Russia, small and medium-sized businesses continue to be key drivers of the country’s economic development. The development of medium-sized businesses contributes to increased competition in the market, stimulates innovation, provides employment opportunities, and improves the living standards of the population.
