Abstract
The article assesses the contributions of public administration organizations to developing the tourism industry in the Republic of Altai. The Altai Republic’s tourism potential depends on endogenous (natural) factors, with limited exogenous (anthropogenic) factors, such as different tourist infrastructure facilities. The Republic of Altai is one of the least developed regions in terms of socioeconomic, cultural, and educational indicators. This has a detrimental impact on the region’s financial and economic potential as well as the prospects for labor, investment, material and production, and service support for the growth of the tourism industry and the republic’s tourism infrastructure. Both federal and regional state initiatives for developing the Republic of Altai’s tourism sector form a system of strategic development of the tourism industry. According to this system, the dynamics of the tourism sector’s functioning indicators are positive but deficient compared to the region’s present tourism potential, which fosters the desire to accelerate the development of tourism infrastructure. The study employs state statistics data, scientific advancements, and normative methodologies to evaluate the role played by public policy actors in regional development. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the author’s approach to assessing the effectiveness of local authorities’ management over the development of the tourism industry.
