The author dwells on improving the operation of cultural institutions at the stage of searching for efficient forms of management. It seems reasonable to transfer them to a new form of operating control: an autonomous institution. Exceptions include the institutions that are unable to function on a market basis as well as especially valuable cultural heritage sites of the peoples of the Russian Federaion.
