There are a number of stereotypes about Islam that, when superimposed on the traditional North Caucasus life style, do not contribute to the improvement of the economic, political, social situation in the region. The article looks at the causes of this issue and ways to overcome it. Of key importance among such measures are strategic forecasting by the federal centre and the development of an action plan based on realities rather than stereotypes.
