The article reveals the role of historical memory in the life of society, identifies the significance of past events which allows the authors to make a conclusion about the unifying force of memory of the Great Patriotic War. Concern is expressed about the facts of 'correction' of historical memory of the population as well as falsification of history, especially of the Soviet period.
