This article attempts to analyze the current state of affairs in the Russian automotive industry. It examines the basic trends in the industry on a global scale, and looks into the main reasons hindering the development of the industry in Russia. It outlines the key prerequisites for subsequent growth of the automobile industry in Russia proposes a number of measures needed to promote the development of the industry. It designates the basic preconditions for the subsequent growth of the automobile industry and the appropriate measures required to promote the development of the industry. First and foremost all businesses operating in the industry were segmented according to specific features inherent in them. It examines each segment, presenting brief characteristics, and detectable strengths and weaknesses. It identifies the main risks faced by the domestic automotive industry in an era of world economic globalization, as well as the effects of the country's accession in the World Trade Organization and the Customs Union.
