Modern threats to the economic security of the border regions

Abstract

The article covers the current trends of the Siberian Federal District border regions development. It is emphasized that these trends are key in the formation of the modern threats to the economic security of the border regions. The authors analyze the main indicators of the regional economic security. The analysis results show a clear decrease in the level of the economic security of the border regions in comparison with the hinterland regions. It is shown that the main threats to the economic security of the border regions of the Siberian Federal District in 2014 were a low level of diversification of their economies, inability of the economies of these regions to grow sustainably (low volume of the gross regional product per capita), high dependence on imports of key products for these economies, export volumes reduction.
